CRÍTICA AO SENSACIONALISMO ESCATOLÓGICO: FUNDAMENTOS DA INTERPRETAÇÃO DE PROFECIAS FUTURAS ENTRE EVANGÉLICOS NO BRASIL

Resumo

Este artigo empreende uma investigação crítica sobre a proeminência do sensacionalismo na interpretação de profecias futuras no contexto do evangelicalismo brasileiro. Diante da notória disseminação de visões apocalípticas espetaculares e prognósticos alarmistas, a análise aprofunda-se nas matrizes hermenêuticas e teológicas que nutrem tal fenômeno. Com base na teologia bíblica e em princípios interpretativos consolidados, o estudo examina como a descontextualização textual, a literalização desmedida e a alegorização arbitrária das Escrituras convergem para alimentar o sensacionalismo escatológico. Argumenta-se que essa abordagem não somente distorce a mensagem bíblica fundamental, mas também engendra ansiedade, desvia o foco da missão eclesiástica e fragiliza o testemunho público da igreja. Advoga-se, por conseguinte, pela urgência de uma hermenêutica bíblica robusta, distintamente cristocêntrica e teologicamente informada, capaz de fomentar uma esperança solidamente fundamentada e uma práxis responsável no presente, em contraponto direto ao investimento em um espetáculo apocalíptico carente de sustentação hermenêutica.

Critique of eschatological sensationalism: foundations for the interpretation of future prophecies among evangelicals in Brazil

Abstract: This article undertakes a critical investigation into the prominence of sensationalism in the interpretation of future prophecies within Brazilian evangelicalism. In view of the notable dissemination of spectacular apocalyptic visions and alarmist prognoses, the analysis delves into the hermeneutical and theological matrices that nourish such a phenomenon. Based on biblical theology and consolidated interpretive principles, the study examines how textual decontextualization, excessive literalization, and arbitrary allegorization of the Scriptures converge to fuel eschatological sensationalism. It is argued that this approach not only distorts the fundamental biblical message but also engenders anxiety, deviates the focus of the ecclesiastical mission, and weakens the public testimony of the church. Therefore, the urgency of a robust, distinctly Christocentric, and theologically informed biblical hermeneutics is advocated, capable of fostering a solidly founded hope and responsible praxis in the present, in direct contrast to the investment in an apocalyptic spectacle lacking hermeneutical sustenance.
