O CRISTÃO E A PERSEVERANÇA NA FÉ: UMA ABORDAGEM EXEGÉTICO-HERMENÊUTICA DE HEBREUS 6.4-6, ACERCA DA (IM)POSSIBILIDADE DE O CRISTÃO PERDER A SALVAÇÃO

Resumo

O texto escolhido traz uma dificuldade exegético-teológica: o cristão pode cair do estado da graça? Ou, em outras palavras, pode o salvo perder a salvação? Essa questão é tratada em apenas 5 versos (Hb 6.4-8); passagem, porém, que faz parte de um longo parágrafo que trata da falta de crescimento espiritual dos leitores (5.11-6.20). O que chamou atenção neste parágrafo é que ele é um comentário paralelo na longa abordagem sobre o sacerdócio de Cristo (4.14-9.14) e sua relação com a enigmática figura de Melquisedeque. Dentro desta seção do livro, o autor sagrado interrompe sua discussão e abre uma espécie de “nota de rodapé” (para alguns comentaristas, uma digressão), apontando a falta de crescimento espiritual dos seus leitores, evidenciada em 5.11. Nesse contexto imediato, surge a passagem de Hebreus 6.4-8, alvo principal deste artigo. O objetivo específico, portanto, foi fazer a exegese dessa passagem e, depois de contextualizá-la dentro do parágrafo mencionado, percebeu-se a natureza e os reais motivos da severa advertência dada aos seus leitores que, por sua vez, esclareceu a questão teológica supracitada. É consenso entre os comentaristas pesquisados a extrema complexidade da passagem em estudo; por outro lado, não há igual consenso quanto ao resultado hermenêutico. Partindo de entendimentos doutrinários já consolidados nas Escrituras, especialmente, na tradição protestante Reformada e Batista, o presente artigo assumiu uma posição teológica a priori que se confirmou a posteriori, pelo aprofundamento exegético da passagem, a saber: o escritor sagrado não abona a ideia de um cristão verdadeiro cair do estado da graça e, assim, perder a salvação conquistada pelos méritos exclusivos de Cristo.

The Christian and perseverance in faith: an exegetical-hermeneutical approach to Hebrews 6.4-6, about the (im)possibility of a Christian losing salvation

Abstract: The chosen text raises an exegetical-theological difficulty: can a Christian fall from the state of grace? Or, in other words, can the saved lose their salvation? This issue is dealt in just 5 verses (Hb 6.4-8); a passage, however, that is part of a long paragraph about the readers' lack of spiritual growth (5.11-6.20). What drew attention in this paragraph is that it is a parallel comment in the long approach to the priesthood of Christ (4.14-9.14) and its relation with the enigmatic figure of Melchizedek. Within this section of the book, the sacred author interrupts his discussion and opens a kind of “footnote” (for some commentators, a digression), pointing out the lack of spiritual growth of his readers, evidenced in 5.11. In this immediate context, the passage from Hebrews 6.4-8, the main target of this article, emerges. The specific objective, therefore, was to exegete this passage, and after contextualizing it within the mentioned paragraph the nature and real motives of the severe warning given to its readers were perceived, which, in turn, clarified the aforementioned theological question. There is a consensus among the commentators surveyed on the extreme complexity of the passage under study; on the other hand, there is no equal consensus on the hermeneutical result. Starting from doctrinal understandings already consolidated in the Scriptures, especially in the Reformed and Baptist Protestant tradition, this article has assumed an a priori theological position that has been confirmed a posteriori, through the exegetical deepening of the passage, namely: the sacred writer does not support the idea of a true Christian falling from the state of grace and thus losing the salvation won by the exclusive merits of Christ.
